How anxiety can affect our performance, especially as an athlete

Like most of the population I suffer from anxiety, and although, it's not as bad as it used to be, suffering as an athlete was next level, as many athletes can appreciate.

For me, it always came as a surprise, esp when It was competition time, literally minutes before I entered the ring.

I would feel fine one minute, but as soon as they called my name, it was all over! Although, it was performance anxiety I was experiencing, and not anxiety on its own.

It used to hit me like a ton of bricks, starting w this cloudiness, tightness of the chest, heavy breathing, numbness. It was like I couldn't control my body, then came the neg self-talk, what if I lose, what would my friends think, what if?...what if?....

I'm sure there are many athletes who have experienced the same kind of anxiety I am talking about. And although, you might be feeling it differently, the results are the same - underperforming, negative mindset and neg self-talk.

The worst thing being, that you know you have the skills, but your mind has got other plans.

First and foremost, this doesn't just apply to athletes, but to those in the corporate world who have to deliver a presentation or workshop or teachers who have to teach in front of a classroom full of kids, really anyone who needs to perform.
